PALPA has a golden and novel
history of its own. It cannot be described in one
or couple of pages, when a history of PALPA will be
written it would have volumes and volumes. In short
Pakistan Airline Pilots Association came into being
in 1962. Its foundation was laid by a group of dedicated
Pilots who formed the Pakistan Pilots’ Association
(PPA) in 1954. Pakistan Pilots’ Association
joined the world community as a member of International
Federation of Airline Pilots Association (IFALPA)
in March 1956.
Over the years
PALPA grew up considerably in terms of numbers and
technical expertise, which was duly recognized by
the PIA Management, and accorded them to negotiate
their working conditions.
PALPA’s main
objective is welfare of its members and to promote
and safeguard the honour, prestige and integrity of
the Pilots as a group by regulating relations between
employees and employers and between employees and
employees. Generally to promote the welfare of the
members, to protect the rights and interests of the
members of economic and social problems in general
and to promote safety of aviation in particular.
During the period
PALPA faced many ups and downs and in 1981, MLR-52
was imposed on the Association, due which a number
of our members sacrificed financially, socially and
professionally. In 1989/90 PALPA was revived and its
activities were restored and an Agreement was signed
with the PIA Management.
Since then PALPA
has not looked back and continued to grow, has improved
in technical know-how and professionalism through
exchange of views with international bodies such as
IFALPA, ICAO, IAPA, FAA etc. and major aircraft manufacturer
like Airbus Industrie, Boeing Company etc.
PALPA is, and has
always been a democratically elected body of airline
pilots, with its Executive Committee entrusted with
the mandate and responsibility for the welfare and
professional interest of the pilot community. PALPA
is also committed to implement the standards and recommended
practices of ICAO, IFALPA, and maintains active liaison,
cooperation and consultation with all national and
international organizations whose interest are aligned
with the promotion of a safe aviation environment
including our regulatory body CAA of Pakistan.
We believe our
passengers are entitled to expect the highest level
of operational safety from the public air transport
industry, and the Pilots of the Association have a
commitment to make their contribution in the overall
team effort required to fulfill this expectation to
the best of their ability.
PALPA is also affiliated
with ITF since 1989/90 taking active part in the affairs
of the ITF.
PALPA has entered
into era of Y2K and is proud of our National Flag
Carrier and will keep it flying high all over the
world.
